O wyścigu
Hurtwood 50k is a 51.5 km trail ultramarathon starting in Dorking and run in early December through the Surrey Hills. It follows the Greensand Way into forested countryside within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with 1,400 metres of climbing packed into a course that suits both first-time ultrarunners and experienced runners looking for a hard winter day out. It also carries UTMB Index status, counting for runners building a trail-ultra profile.
The route is shaped like a lollipop: runners head out from Dorking, leave the Greensand Way for a five-mile loop, then return along the same main line. The course climbs over Leith Hill, Holmbury Hill, and Pitch Hill, so it is not just a long woodland run; the hills do real work on tired legs. Recent fields have been in the hundreds, with 366 finishers listed in one edition, and the race is reported as well signed and well supported. In bad weather it can turn rough quickly, with one race report calling it a “suffer fest” after storm conditions made the challenge brutal.
