The Hastings seafront offers a rare flat running corridor along the coast, popular for steady miles on promenade and shingle beach; the local running club circuit uses Pelham Park and the gentle valley routes inland toward Battle. Cyclists face a sharp choice: the flat coastal strip works for tempo efforts, but serious climbing starts immediately inland with the High Weald's rolling terrain (200–300m elevation gain on loops toward Sedlescombe and Ashburnham). The nearest organised cycling time trials are the Team MK TT Series races near Milton Keynes, over 100km away, so most local cyclists rely on self-organised efforts and club rides through the sandstone ridges south and west of town.
