5k Turkey Trot Family Tradition 2026

The 5k Turkey Trot Family Tradition begins and ends at Healthy Happy Body on West Diversey Avenue in Elmwood Park, Illinois. This Thanksgiving morning run and walk includes a 5K, a Kids 5K, and a 1 Mile Walk, all designed for families to be active before the holiday meal. The main 5K and walk begin at 9am Central, and this event is in its 7th year. This is a casual, all-ages turkey trot, not a competition solely for serious runners. Children, strollers, costumes, walkers, and dogs are welcome. A live DJ contributes to the holiday-morning atmosphere. The event is part of a widespread Thanksgiving running custom across the United States: turkey trots occur in all 50 states, the 5K is the most frequent distance, and Thanksgiving Day hosts the most road races annually.
