Call of the Wilds Mountain Fest is a fall trail running event in Pennsylvania's Waterville and Lock Haven area, offering 25K and 50K distances on rugged state-forest trails. The races have an ultra feel even at the shorter distance: the 25K gains over 5,000 feet and the 50K gains over 8,000 feet, with approximately 95% of the route on unpaved surfaces. Organizers caution that these are not courses for novice trail runners, warning entrants to prepare for some of Pennsylvania's most challenging trails.
Both courses incorporate sections of the Mid State, Spiked Buck, Tiadaghton, Panther Run, and Torbert trails. The 25K also uses Huntley. The 50K begins at the park, proceeds north to Panther Run, ascends to the Mid State Trail, and then follows a significant portion of the original COTW Marathon route. Torbert Trail presents a late challenge with about 4 miles remaining, before runners descend to the finish on Panther Run. Hikers are welcome but must complete the course within 7 hours. Each distance is limited to 200 runners, Falcon Timing manages the finish line, and post-race food and beverages are provided.
