The Cocoa Classic 5K is a charity run held at The Mount Vernon School in Sandy Springs, Georgia. It features a fast, loop course certified by USATF, which runners can use as a Peachtree Road Race qualifier. The event appeals to both those aiming for a personal best and local families seeking a short community race with a distinct objective.
The race originated from Collin Charles Maher's Eagle Scout project, inspired by his observation of children at a local food bank wearing inadequate footwear. Proceeds support the purchase of new athletic shoes for children in Sandy Springs and the greater Atlanta area, in partnership with Shoes That Fit. To date, the race has provided over 1,100 pairs of shoes. Awards are given to top finishers, all participants receive a Cocoa Classic-branded YETI cup, and the event's core mission remains providing suitable footwear for children.
