Gopher Weedon Trail Run

The Gopher Weedon Trail Run is an 8K race held at Weedon Island Preserve in Northeast St. Pete, typically on a Saturday in late October. Rather than a typical 5K road race, it guides runners and walkers along approximately 4.9 miles of natural trail within the 6,150-acre preserve on Tampa Bay. The course incorporates roads, trails, and dirt paths, passing through native Florida ecosystems. It attracts a modest group of just over 200 participants when at capacity, and it has sold out early in some years. Previous participants have included individuals from their early teens to their eighties, with swift male winners finishing around the 30-minute mark and female winners under 40 minutes. This run serves as the primary event for Friends of Weedon Island, the volunteer organization that aids the preserve and its personnel.
