Jupiter Ridge Sand Spur guides runners on a 4.5-mile loop within Jupiter Ridge Natural Area in Jupiter, Florida, crossing coastal dunes. This late-December trail race offers two distances: a 50K covering seven loops and a half marathon completing three loops. The 50K accumulates approximately 1,400 feet of elevation gain, and the half marathon features about 600 feet of elevation change.
The course alternates between deep sand, dune crests, and firmer sections providing brief respite from the soft terrain. A notable dune reaches 49 feet above sea level, significant for a looped course in coastal Florida. The natural area spans 270 acres of scrub habitat, home to numerous plant and animal species, some designated as threatened, rare, or of special concern. To minimize environmental impact, runner entry is limited to 80 participants. The loop design ensures aid stations are readily accessible, located at the start and near the midpoint of each circuit.
