The L.A. Chinatown Firecracker is a Lunar New Year race weekend held at historic Los Angeles Chinatown Plaza. The main 5K and 10K begin on North Broadway. Beyond the road races, the event features a 5K fun run, a children's run, a Paw’er Dog Walk, and 20-mile and 50-mile bike rides. This allows families, walkers, cyclists, runners, and dog owners to participate in the same festival weekend. The L.A. Chinatown Firecracker Run Committee, a volunteer-led nonprofit, organizes the event, with proceeds supporting local community programs, elementary schools, and other nonprofits.
The start locations are situated near Chinatown landmarks. The bike rides and 5K/10K use 943 N. Broadway. The dog walk begins near Broadway Cuisine Restaurant and Blossom Plaza, and the children's run starts near Bank of America. The longer bike ride extends to Pasadena and Altadena, while the running events remain within Chinatown. The weekend includes a Lunar New Year opening ceremony with lion dancers, the traditional lighting of 100,000 firecrackers, festival vendors and booths, finisher medals, shirts, race bibs, a dog shirt, and a beer garden for registered adults. As one of the older and larger running events in the United States, it offers a significant race-day atmosphere while maintaining its community focus.
