Li'l Rhody Runaround is a fall trail race held at the Burlingame State Park picnic area in Charlestown, Rhode Island. Runners can choose between 4-mile and 8-mile distances, both starting from the DEM picnic area parking lot near Watchaug Pond. This event is the third race in the Westerly Track & Athletic Club's Fall Race Series. All participants must register online prior to race day. Both races commence in the morning following check-in and bib pickup. The 8-mile race has a 2-hour cutoff time, equivalent to a 15-minute per mile pace.
The course primarily consists of dirt trails, with some sections of dirt and asphalt roads near Burlingame and Watchaug Pond. Participants begin with nearly a mile on the quiet Sanctuary Road, allowing runners to spread out before entering the trails. The 8-mile route then proceeds onto single-track trails, encircling Watchaug Pond in a counterclockwise direction. The 4-mile route continues towards Kimball Preserve and includes a loop through the Burlingame campground. Walkers are welcome to participate but should opt for the 4-mile race. Strollers and dogs are not permitted. A specific detail highlighting the Rhode Island trail season is the state DEM requirement: all participants and volunteers must wear a minimum of 200 square inches of orange material. Post-race, participants will receive hot soup, food, and cider.
