O wyścigu
Nelson's Summit 50/50 is an annual trail race held in the Red House area of Allegany State Park, near Salamanca, New York. The start and finish lines are located at the Art Roscoe warming hut. Participants can select from three race distances: a 25km (approximately 16.1 miles), a 50km (approximately 32.2 miles), and a 50 miler (approximately 50.2 miles). The course consists of a marked loop featuring groomed trails, single track, and rolling hills. Each distance runs slightly longer than its stated name.
One loop covers about 16 miles with approximately 2,250 feet of elevation change, meaning the 50km and 50 miler involve significant climbing as the route is repeated. The race provides two aid stations offering water, electrolytes, fruit, snacks, and candy. Hot food is available for 50-mile runners after mile 34. Cutoff times are strictly enforced: 6 hours for the 25km, 9 hours for the 50km, and 14 hours for the 50 miler. All participants receive event socks, and top finishers in each distance and gender category are awarded prizes. The race is USATF sanctioned, Trail Sisters approved, and is listed for the UTMB Index.
