Pass Mountain is a desert trail race held at Usery Mountain Regional Park in Mesa, Arizona. All distances are run entirely on unpaved trails. It is the second event in Aravaipa Running’s Desert Runner Trail Series. The race typically offers 5K, 10K, 25K, 50K, and 50-mile distances, accommodating both short trail runners and ultrarunners. The start and finish are at the Trailhead Staging Area. Longer races begin early in the morning, with chip-timed results available at the finish.
The routes traverse Usery Mountain, bordering the Goldfield Mountain Range. Elevations range from approximately 1,800 feet at the start to nearly 2,600 feet at the highest points. The 25K and 50K courses complete a loop around Pass Mountain in Tonto National Forest, the namesake feature of the race. Aid stations are positioned approximately every 3.0 to 8.6 miles, providing water, electrolyte drink, snacks, and fruit. Runners are advised to carry at least one bottle. The event has a field limit of about 400 participants and has been a fixture in Arizona trail racing since 2010.
