O wyścigu
Schutt's Cider Mile requires runners to drink cider four times over the course of one mile at Schutt's Apple Mill in Webster, New York. The race takes place in early November at the orchard on Plank Road. The format is straightforward: drink cider, run a quarter mile, and repeat until the mile is complete. Participants select either hard cider or regular apple cider during registration. Hard cider is restricted to individuals 21 and older with valid identification, while younger participants receive apple cider.
The course is an off-road mile through the orchards, offering a feel more akin to a short farm run than a road race. Each lap includes a 4-ounce cider sample, contributing to the event's relaxed, quick, and endearingly absurd nature. Waves depart in 15-minute intervals, with approximately 60 participants per wave. Post-race, runners are welcome to remain for additional tastings, explore the country store, and view the family-run apple mill, which has been locally owned for four generations since 1918.
