The Summit Mountain Challenge is a six-race summer mountain bike series held on the trails of Summit County, Colorado. Racing takes place on Wednesday evenings from May through August. Participants can select from long, short, or kids courses, with the series combining fast trail segments and significant climbs. To be eligible for overall series standings, racers must complete five of the six races using the same course option.
The series concludes with the Breckenridge Classic, providing a definitive endpoint for riders competing for points or aiming to finish the summer season. Breckenridge Recreation now oversees the series, having taken over from Jeff “Westy” Wescott of Maverick Sports Promotions. The event continues to uphold his founding principle of accessible, well-organized local racing for the community. The races operate under a USDA Forest Service permit within White River National Forest, meaning that weather and trail conditions may necessitate adjustments, such as delays, cancellations, or rescheduling.
