The route crosses grounds once used for supplying explosives during World War II and storing military weapons through the early and mid-1900s. The site now supports local industry, with remnants of military ruins and old manufacturing facilities still visible on the property. The race acknowledges this history through military-themed shirts, unique bib numbers, and custom finisher medals, while providing discounts for veterans and students from Vermillion and Parke counties. Proceeds benefit the Vermillion Trails Alliance, dedicated to expanding trail and recreation options in Vermillion County.
