Ironwood24 is a 25-hour trail ultra at Black Hill, located approximately 30 minutes from Newcastle. Participants begin at 10 AM, completing a 7 km loop repeatedly until 11 AM the following day. The final lap must be started by 10 AM. This event accommodates solo runners and teams, allowing individuals to manage their pace, rest, and nutrition as they see fit.
The race originated as a modest Wooters event organized by Nick Stabler, Mel Allen, and Chris Hayes. It initially featured 5 individual runners and 31 team participants across 5 teams. The event site combines camping and race headquarters, offering space for tents and coolers near vehicles. A stable serves as the headquarters, with amenities including portable toilets, marquees, braziers, a barbecue, power, hot water, and a pool for cooling down. Three timing stations on the loop provide real-time progress updates for runners.
