The Ground Effects Windsor Waterfront Half Marathon & 5K runs alongside the Detroit River in Windsor, Ontario, with Detroit visible across the water. It features a half marathon and 5K on a flat, timed, certified out-and-back course, suitable for first-time half marathoners and runners aiming for a personal best. The route follows Riverside Drive, closed to traffic for the event, and goes past Windsor’s waterfront parks and the Hiram Walker distillery, producer of Canadian Club Whisky, JP Wiser’s, and Polar Ice Vodka. Spectators gather at turn-around points with music and cheering, and participants come from outside the region as well as local runners.
