Sobre esta prova
The Bieruński Bieg Utopca is a winter cross-country running event held in Bieruń, Silesia, starting and finishing on the Market Square. The primary race covers approximately 17 km with about 210 m of elevation gain. A shorter 5 to 6 km route is available for runners and Nordic walkers. The course winds through Bieruń and Lędziny, featuring varied terrain with hills that lend it a trail-like character within the town, distinguishing it from a flat road race. Participation is limited to 800 individuals, and a portion of the entry fee supports the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity.
The event's name is inspired by the Utopiec, a mythical marsh dweller from Bieruń-Lędziny folklore known for shape-shifting and mischief. This theme is reflected in the race's mementos, with each finisher receiving a medal and the Utopiec motif on the annual shirt and medal varying each year. Initially attracting over 400 participants, the race quickly grew to over 700, primarily from southern Poland, with some traveling from further afield and a Czech contingent participating in one instance. Adjacent to the race headquarters, approximately 400 m from the Market Square, a Family Sports Picnic features local performers, sports organizations, artisan stalls, food vendors, and children's entertainment including face painting, games, and contests.
