35. Sri Chinmoy 12h Lauf Basel
The Sri Chinmoy 12h Lauf Basel is a 12-hour road ultramarathon held in Basel, Switzerland, on the Sportanlage St. Jakob. Rather than a point-to-point course, participants run laps on a 1.1-kilometer asphalt loop with no listed elevation change. The objective is straightforward: run for 12 hours, cover the maximum possible distance, and have each final partial lap measured. This event is organized by the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team, holds an IAU Bronze Label, and its results are eligible for official rankings. The loop is fast, paved, and illuminated at night, making it suitable for runners aiming for specific distances and those learning to pace a long ultra on a managed course. The event also includes 6-hour and 100 km split races, offering shorter objectives. The fields are typically modest, comprising a few dozen men and women, but the competition at the front can be intense. Winners have exceeded 130 km in multiple editions, with one surpassing 140 km. The race has been held since at least 1990, establishing a significant tradition in Swiss fixed-time ultrarunning.
