Füssener Lauf-Samstag & Königsschlösser Marathon 2026

The Königsschlösser Marathon begins and ends on Kemptener Straße in Füssen, Bavaria’s East Allgäu. The royal castles are close enough to be part of the race day. This is an annual running series offering a full marathon, half marathon, quarter marathon, and children’s races, first held in 2001. The marathon is a flat 42.195 km circuit with approximately 120 meters of climbing. The half marathon covers two laps and the quarter marathon follows one lap of the same basic route. Children’s races are held in the start and finish area and are divided into age groups from Bambini to Maxi-Kids. The marathon route passes Hopfensee, Forggensee, Schwansee, and Füssen’s old town, then moves through the Hopfer forest, along the Lech floodplain, and past Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau. The surface is about half asphalt and half good forest paths, with roughly 60 percent of the marathon running beside water. The half marathon goes through Füssen’s old town and Schwanseepark, with around 90 meters of elevation gain per lap. A recent edition had over 800 runners. The event’s former name, City Lauf Füssen & Königsschlösser Romantik-Marathon, still reflects the course: town streets, lakes, forest paths, and the castle country around Füssen.
