Köhlbrandbrückenlauf
The Köhlbrandbrückenlauf is Germany's largest bridge run, a 12.3-kilometer public road race in Hamburg held each autumn on German Unity Day. It starts and finishes at the Süd/West-Terminalgelände in the Port of Hamburg, and the route is officially measured. The race is open to runners aged 10 and up, suitable for club runners, casual runners, and younger participants who can handle the distance. The reason people seek a place is the Köhlbridge itself: runners cross a major port bridge that usually serves as a key transport link, with wide views across Hamburg's docks and harbor. The course uses port roads including Veddeler Damm, Ellerholzbrücke, and Roßdamm before reaching the bridge and turning near Finkenwerderstraße. Demand is high enough that its start waves can sell out months ahead, and there is a start-place exchange for people trying to get in later. Marathon Hamburg Event GmbH organizes the race, and the bridge has extra pull because it is a Hamburg landmark planned for replacement after 2030.
