The Hollenmarsch takes place in Bödefeld, a village within Schmallenberg, with the start and finish located in the village center. It accommodates various participants moving on foot: hikers, Nordic walkers, speed hikers, runners, and trail runners. The longest marches, 83 km and 101 km, begin on Friday evening, following number pickup, late registration, the official opening, and a route and safety briefing.
The village center is integral to the event, not merely a checkpoint. Companions and visitors are welcome, and the start-finish area offers cold and hot drinks, cake, and fries. Volunteers staff the aid stations while long-distance participants navigate the course through the night. The weekend concludes with a gathering in Bödefeld to honor the finishers and their accomplishments.
