Einstein Marathon
The Einstein Marathon takes place on a September weekend in Ulm and Neu-Ulm. It is named for the city’s most famous scientific son and began in the Einstein Year. The primary events are the marathon and half marathon. The program also includes 10 km and 5 km runs, as well as inline skaters and handbike athletes competing over the half-marathon distance. By German standards, it attracts a large field, with the half marathon typically having more participants than the full marathon. The marathon and half marathon begin near the Donauhalle on Böfinger Straße. They follow routes that may vary annually before finishing at Münsterplatz, directly beneath Ulm Minster. The shorter running races also conclude at this square, making it the common finish line for many participants throughout the day. SSV Ulm 1846 hosts the event, and SUN Sportmanagement organizes it. The race has previously hosted national championship fields, including German marathon and half marathon championships, and Alina Reh set a German U23 half marathon record at this event.
