The Vitoria-Gasteiz Trail is a September mountain running event held in the Basque capital, with its courses beginning just about a kilometer from the city center. Participants can select between 16k and 26k races. The event also offers a walking option and canicross, catering to diverse participants.
The routes traverse the Green Ring, Armentia forest, Armentia Park, and the Montes de Vitoria, covering areas like Zaldiaran, Rosteta, Arrieta, and Eskibel. The courses are characterized as fast and not highly technical, yet sufficiently challenging to test runners. Recent years have seen approximately 850 athletes from fifteen nationalities participate. The event has introduced an 18k walk and the TxakurKross, noted as the first of its kind in the Basque Country. Vitoria-Gasteiz’s designation as a Green Capital aligns with the race's ethos, integrating the city’s parks and mountain periphery into the event’s setting.
