The Trail de la Valserine is a trail race held in Champfromier, a village in the Ain department on the edge of the Jura mountains, within France's Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region. It takes place in early June, offering mild weather suitable for extended outdoor activity before the peak summer heat. The main event is a 105 km mountain trail race with 4,500 m of elevation gain. However, the race structure is adaptable: the entire route is divided into eight loops, and participants can select the number of loops they wish to finish within the 24-hour timeframe.
The loops traverse mainly paths and trails through protected natural areas surrounding the Valserine valley. Runners will follow sections alongside the Valserine river and through the Champfromier forest, giving the course the feel of an extended exploration of local terrain rather than a linear ultra with a single narrative. Aid stations are located at the Camping des Georennes, which also serves as the practical turnaround point for runners choosing to end their participation. The event is designed for trail runners seeking a communal experience in the hills alongside a competitive challenge.
