The Sports Mate Run Akabane Arakawa Half Marathon is a small Tokyo race held near Akabane. The reception area is located under the JR Keihin-Tohoku Line tracks, and the venue is approximately a 20-minute walk from Akabane Station’s North Exit. This event takes place in June and features a half marathon, 10 km, 5 km, 3 km, and a 3 km parent-child race. With a runner limit of 500, it offers a local race day atmosphere rather than a large city marathon feel. The half marathon is open to junior-high-age runners and older, with a three-hour time limit. The shorter races are more relaxed, accommodating beginners, children, and families.
The course follows the Arakawa riverside, extending from near Shin-Arakawa Ohashi Bridge towards Toda Bridge on a flat out-and-back route. Water and snacks, including fruit and chocolate, are available at the start and turnaround points. Finish certificates with recorded times are printed on the day. Automatic timing is provided for those focused on their results, and prizes are awarded to the top three finishers in each category. The organization is practical: bibs are distributed at registration, baggage is stored on blue tarps, rain bags are supplied if necessary, and runners can use Ota-yu for valuables, changing, and bathing for a fee.
