The Echigo Kubiki-no 100km Marathon is an ultramarathon held in Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture, beginning before dawn in October. It features four wave-start blocks, each 30 minutes apart, and offers a 100 km solo race, a 100 km pair relay, and a 50 km race. This event attracts participants from all over Japan and stands as the largest sports event of its kind in the Joetsu region. This year marks the final edition, lending the race a distinct farewell atmosphere, setting it apart from a typical long-distance competition.
The course incorporates steep road segments, making it unsuitable for wheelchair participants. Entrants must be adults; high school students are ineligible. Each runner is required to undergo a medical check prior to race day and carry proof of health insurance. The event operates on a donation-based entry system: participants donate initially and subsequently receive a race-entry URL via email, with race materials dispatched beforehand. All race categories filled, indicating strong demand from runners eager to participate in the final 100 km run on the Kubiki-no roads.
