Tilburg Ten Miles
The Tilburg Ten Miles is a running event in Tilburg, taking place on the last Sunday of September since 1988. It features the English mile as its main distance: the men's primary race is 10 English miles, and both men and women compete over 10 kilometers. The event attracts international participants, welcoming both competitive and recreational runners within the program held in and around the city center. The course is situated in and near central Tilburg, known for fast times recorded in its history. Haile Gebrselassie achieved 44:24 for the men's 10 English miles, Lonah Chemtai Salpeter set the women's 10 km record at 30:05, and Peter Kamais holds the men's 10 km record at 27:09. The event has also served as the venue for the Dutch 10 km championships. A walking tour of Tilburg occurs the day prior to the races. Past winners have included top East African athletes. A notable recent event involved Rodgers Kwemoi, who had been the first to win three consecutive editions, later had his results invalidated due to a doping violation, as did another winner.
