Piątka dla Bartka
Piątka dla Bartka is a 5 km charity run in Kielce, Poland, starting from the Athletics Stadium on Leszka Drogosza Street. It is built around one simple purpose: raising money so Bartek Orzechowski, a boy from Suchedniów born without a left foot, can keep getting prostheses, rehabilitation, and specialist equipment. The Polish slogan, “Biegnę, żeby Bartek mógł biegać,” means “I run so Bartek can run.” There is no timing and no prize money, so the event feels closer to a community run than a race for results. The course is short and accessible, but the point is the turnout rather than the pace. Entry income goes to the Nasz Maraton Foundation, which supports Bartek, and earlier editions have brought hundreds of people together around that goal. Bartek’s prostheses are expensive and need regular replacement as he grows, and his support also covers ongoing rehabilitation. He leads an active life, including cycling, hiking, and amp football training, which makes the run’s purpose easy to understand: people cover five kilometers so he can keep moving too. The series is planned to finish with its fourteenth edition.
