O tomto preteku
Twardziel Świętokrzyski is a roughly 100-kilometer ultra in Poland’s Świętokrzyskie Mountains, with a start area around Strawczyn in Kielce County. It can be completed as a walking marathon or a running ultra, held annually around the turn of April and May. The distance is part of its identity: runners have long considered it 100 kilometers, though organizers have also listed a shorter measurement of about 95 kilometers. Consequently, it's discussed as a challenging mountain hundred rather than a precise road-race distance.
The route crosses some of the most rugged sections of the Świętokrzyskie range, including the stone scree fields known as gołoborza, steep ascents toward Święty Krzyż, and the Jeleniowskie range. This event is suited for participants comfortable with mud, rocks, nighttime running, and variable weather conditions. Its inaugural edition commemorated Poland's accession to the European Union. The local environment offers more than just terrain; these are ancient mountains steeped in Polish history and culture.
