The Potomac River Run Marathon & Half begins and ends at Fletcher's Cove in Washington, D.C., offering marathon and half-marathon distances along the C&O Canal Towpath. The Marine Corps Marathon relies on extensive volunteer support, with approximately 1,850 individuals assisting on race day. They distribute water, Gatorade, snacks, Band-Aids, medals, shirts, manage baggage, provide directions, and offer encouragement along the course.
