Chestertown Challenge Half Marathon Run and 5K Run/Walk
The Chestertown Challenge takes place on race morning at Wilmer Park in Chestertown, Maryland. A half marathon, a 5K run, and a 5K walk begin at 9 a.m. Packet pickup and race-day registration start at 8 a.m., accommodating both pre-registered participants and those signing up on the morning of the event.
The race supports Kent Association of Riding Therapy, Inc., a nonprofit organization assisting children and adults with disabilities. KART’s services include therapeutic horseback riding, barn management, and horse care. The Silent Hero option allows individuals to contribute to the fundraising efforts without participating in the run or walk.
.05K presented by 98ROCK
The .05K, presented by 98ROCK, is a small Baltimore race with a distance that's a joke: it measures just 162 feet, or “point zero five K.” This yearly evening event takes place at Union Craft Brewing and functions as a launch party for the Baltimore Running Festival. Registration costs $15 and includes a bib and a commemorative 98ROCK/.05K T-shirt.
The course is essentially a short dash or walk, after which participants return to Union Craft Brewing. Justin, Scott, and Spiegel from 98ROCK lead the event, which includes check-in, pre-race beer, and a warm-up before the one-minute race. The event is open to ages 21 to 99, costumes add to the enjoyment, and those not running can still attend for the brewery gathering. All proceeds from entry fees benefit the Baltimore City Firefighters Local 734 Widows & Orphans Fund.
Retriever 5k Dawg Chase and Fun Run
The Retriever 5k Dawg Chase and Fun Run begins and ends at UMBC’s Albin O. Kuhn Library in Baltimore. This Homecoming morning event offers a 5k for runners and walkers, and a 1-mile option for those seeking a more relaxed outing with family, friends, or a pet. Check-in starts early, with the race/walk commencing at 8:30 a.m.
The course is contained on campus, with both distances concluding back at the library. Participant numbers are limited to 250, fostering a community feel for Homecoming rather than a large-scale road race. UMBC students receive a reduced entry fee, and alumni, faculty, staff, friends, and families can register individually or as a family pack. Those who register early will get a commemorative shirt and a participant medal.
Historic Drawbridge Running Festival
The Historic Drawbridge Running Festival takes runners over and alongside Talbot County’s historic drawbridges on a fast waterfront route. The event typically provides a 5K, 10K, half marathon, and Kids Dash, suitable for walkers, families, first-timers, and runners seeking a longer challenge. The organization is practical: chip timing, marked turns, staffed aid stations, posted course maps, elevation profiles, and pace limits inform participants before race day.
The courses trace the county’s working waterways, featuring flat sections, coastal breezes, harbors, marsh views, historic neighborhoods, boats, and potential wildlife. Local authorities manage bridge operations and traffic control, important as the route uses active drawbridges. Many editions include finisher medals, race shirts, age-group awards, race photos, real-time results, post-race refreshments, and sometimes a shakeout run or course talk before the main events.
2026 Patterson Park 5k & Homebrew Contest
The Patterson Park 5K & Homebrew Contest combines a road 5K run within Baltimore’s Patterson Park with a homebrew tasting and competition. It typically takes place in November, featuring a 1-mile fun run preceding the 5K. Both events are open to families, strollers, and dogs.
The race course is contained entirely within Patterson Park and features some inclines, making it a relaxed neighborhood event rather than a fast, flat course. The field size is modest, typically numbering in the low hundreds. Participants include runners, walkers, children, pet owners, beer tasters, and those supporting student travel. Following the races, the event transitions to a beer garden atmosphere with homebrew samples, live music, food, and local vendors. The homebrew contest is an established annual tradition connected to a Baltimore initiative focused on developing global citizens.
Angels on the Run 5K
St. Augustine Catholic School hosts the Angels on the Run 5K, designed for runners, walkers, and stroller-pushers. This community event supports fundraising and wellness, offering a virtual participation option for those unable to attend in person.
The route winds through the Lyndwood neighborhood, featuring safety marshals and a water station at the midpoint. The event accommodates race enthusiasts, families, friends, and walkers, with awards given in various age categories. Veterans are recognized with a special token, adding a local tradition to the event beyond the race outcomes.
22nd Annual Catonsville High School XC Turkey Trot
The Catonsville High School XC Turkey Trot begins at 421 Bloomsbury Avenue in Catonsville, Maryland. It offers Thanksgiving morning runners a cross-country-style option between a 5K and a 1 Mile Family Fun Run. The mile is a single loop for all ages, while the 5K uses two loops. Both races are chip timed. The event directly supports the high school cross country team; all proceeds go to the CHS Cross Country program, funding uniforms, training tools, travel, and community causes the team supports.
This is a local school-and-town race, not a large-city road event. It includes music, prizes, packet pickup before race day and on race morning, and cash awards from local sponsors. The course rules out strollers and pets, indicating it is more akin to a true cross country run than a casual paved event. Past fundraising has benefited groups and causes such as We Run With You, Turn Around, Back on My Feet, recovery and relief funds, and the Carol Saffran-Brinks Memorial Scholarship, which has supported 14 Catonsville runners competing at the NCAA level.
22nd Annual LARS Race Against Hunger & Homelessness (The Turkey Trot)
The LARS Race Against Hunger & Homelessness is a Thanksgiving morning turkey trot in Laurel, Maryland, held at Alice B. McCullough Field. It includes a 5K run, a 1-mile walk, a virtual option, and a donor option, allowing participants to race, walk with family, or support the cause from off the course.
The event has been a Thanksgiving morning fixture since 2004, attracting runners and walkers of all ages from South Central Maryland and beyond. Proceeds benefit Laurel Advocacy & Referral Services, Inc., funding local efforts addressing hunger, homelessness, stability, and self-sufficiency.
Race 13.1 Baltimore Half Marathon, 10K & 5K
Race 13.1 Baltimore begins and ends at Canton Waterfront Park, offering half marathon, 10K, and 5K races on the same morning. The half marathon and 10K start first, with the 5K following soon after. The weather is typically cold, averaging between 30°F and 50°F, creating an early-winter running atmosphere.
The course follows the waterfront for a significant portion, winding through the Inner Harbor and historic Fells Point. It is largely flat, with some inclines in Fells Point. The half marathon can attract up to approximately 2,000 participants. The event focuses on practicality, featuring well-supplied aid stations, course marshals, live text results post-race, and numerous food and beverage options near the start-finish area on the waterfront.
Naptown Half Marathon & 10K/5K
The Naptown Half Marathon & 10K/5K is a December running event in Annapolis, Maryland, offering half marathon, 10K, and 5K distances. All races begin at USNA Stadium, adjacent to the U.S. Naval Academy. The half marathon and 10K start at 7:30 a.m., followed by the 5K at 7:40 a.m. The event has a holiday theme; each participant receives a Santa hat, and many runners wear costumes, adding a festive atmosphere to the morning.
The half marathon course is USATF certified, commencing near the Naval Academy, proceeding through downtown Annapolis, and then accessing the Baltimore-Annapolis Trail. A minor course adjustment is implemented around mile 2 for the half marathon and 10K, while the 5K follows a revised route. Santa Claus is present at the event, and awards are given for the most festive participants. The White Elephant exchange allows attendees to swap gifts under $10. The race also collaborates with Friends of Anne Arundel Trails, connecting the event to the local trail system utilized by runners, walkers, and cyclists throughout the county.
