Southern Grit Endurance Challenge 2027

The Southern Grit Endurance Challenge is a timed trail race in south-central Kentucky, located in the small Butchertown community of northern Casey County. The event provides 3-, 6-, 12-, and 24-hour race options for runners, alongside matching ruck divisions. The objective is to complete loops until the allotted time expires. It is situated in Kentucky's Knobs region, an area of wooded hills emerging from farmland between the Appalachian Plateau and the Bluegrass region. The course consists almost entirely of unpaved trail. It begins around 1,017 feet, reaches a high point near 1,479 feet, and includes approximately 1,100 feet of total elevation gain. Each lap is chip-timed, with final standings determined by total laps completed, not a set distance. The primary aid station is at the start/finish, offering water, electrolytes, snacks, and hot food. Runners also pass their tent or vehicle each loop for personal support. The race is cup-free, requires headlamps after dark, and permits pacing and crewing.
