The Capital Subaru Cape to Cabot begins at Cape Spear National Historic Site, North America's most easterly point, and concludes at Signal Hill in St. John’s, Newfoundland. This annual 20K road race follows a straightforward concept with challenging execution: run from the cape into the city, then ascend to a prominent St. John’s landmark.
The route features approximately 17 km of undulating terrain before a sustained final ascent, demanding late-race strength over consistent pacing. Participants range from elite athletes and club runners to long-time participants; Florence Barron completed the race at 86, having participated for 11 years, and Bill Saunders was an 80+ finisher. Barron's commitment reflects the race's community: she trains with a coached group, runs independently in the mornings, and cherishes the camaraderie that motivates participants.
