The Sloterplasloop is a long-standing Amsterdam Nieuw-West race day centered on the Sloterplas, the lake and park in the city's west. Held in October, it features short kids' runs, 5 km and 10 km races, and a 7.5 km walk. This allows children, walkers, first-timers, club runners, and faster racers to participate on the same morning. The main races use chip timing and net times, with prize money for the 5 km and 10 km events.
The routes circle the Sloterplas on flat paths and roads, with parkland and water nearby for most of the course. Amsterdamse Atletiek Combinatie organizes the event, which is deep into its history, with its ninetieth edition noted on race calendars. Local runners form a significant part of the field, but the event also attracts international participants seeking a low-key Amsterdam race away from the crowds of the city-center marathon.
