The New Balance Kö Meile features a measured road mile on Düsseldorf’s Königsallee, the city’s main boulevard, with a 5 km option for those seeking a longer distance. The mile, at 1.6 km, is accessible for beginners yet competitive enough for serious runners. The event also includes children’s and youth races, a REHACARE half-mile, school team competitions, corporate classifications, and a Business Run. Its motto, “Düsseldorf läuft jemeensam,” translates from local dialect to "Düsseldorf runs together."
The start and finish are located on the Königsallee, and the course is officially certified by World Athletics. The elite mile is by invitation only, contributes to World Ranking points, and saw Elliot Giles set a men’s road-mile world record of 3:51.30. Beyond the elite competition, the day is structured as a community running event, with confetti, a cheering zone, a DJ truck, finisher donuts, and medals integrated into the festivities. While inspired by New York’s Fifth Avenue Mile, the Düsseldorf event maintains a distinct local character by including schools, companies, recreational runners, youth, and elite athletes on the same boulevard.
