Trail des Dents du Midi

The Trail des Dents du Midi is a September mountain trail race in Valais, Switzerland, following a loop of the Dents du Midi massif. It provides 57K and 32K options, beginning near 800 metres elevation, ascending to 2500 metres, and taking place almost entirely on unpaved paths. The race is noted as Europe’s oldest mountain race, originating in the early 1960s during Swiss army troop training in the area. The established route encircles the mountain chain via paths crossing lakes, waterfalls, torrents, forests, scree slopes, and alpine pastures. Its first official iteration was a 44 km race commencing in Vérossaz, with the long loop building the event’s standing over time. Currently, it attracts competitive runners, regular trail participants, and those drawn by the shared mountain ambiance, supported by volunteers and spectators along the course.
