The Run Northumberland Big 10 Miler is a 10-mile road race held near Newcastle upon Tyne in the village of Matfen. The course consists of two laps on undulating roads, with traffic management ensuring most of the route is free from vehicles. The race has a limit of 300 participants, making it a focused event rather than a large-scale competition. Entrants must be 17 years or older. The race features chip timing, mile markers, and water stations approximately every three miles.
Matfen Village Hall serves as the race headquarters, providing facilities for registration, toilets, changing, bag drop, and refreshments. Parking is available on the village by-pass, opposite Matfen Hall. The finish line is also located on the by-pass, near the starting area. All finishers will receive a medal. Awards are presented to the top three overall finishers, as well as to winners in various age categories and teams, offering incentives for club runners beyond completing the 10 miles.
