The Kita Gas Group Relay Marathon takes place at Daiwa House Premist Dome in Sapporo. It is a team relay run on a 2 km loop that circulates inside the dome and around its exterior grounds. Teams exchange a tasuki sash, and each team can consist of one to 21 runners. Participants can choose from three race formats: a full marathon covering 21 laps, a five-hour event focused on completing the maximum number of laps, or a 10 km mini marathon over five laps intended for smaller teams. The race commences in the morning and concludes in the afternoon. Spectators are welcome to attend without charge.
The course incorporates the dome’s indoor and open arenas, along with surrounding walking paths, offering runners a consistent loop with rapid transitions and close proximity to teammates. Teams determine their own running order, individual lap assignments, and attire, accommodating families, office groups, recreational runners, club athletes, and costume-clad participants. Originally established to commemorate the facility's 10th anniversary, the event has attracted approximately 100,000 runners over its 13 editions. Support from Sapporo City and the Sapporo City Board of Education underscores its function as both a community sports event and a race.
