Über dieses Rennen
The PSS Imperial Palace Health Running is a small running event held at Tokyo's Imperial Palace, starting and finishing near the clock tower within Sakuradamon Gate. It features 5 km, 10 km, 20 km, and a 20 km relay. The longer distances begin earlier in the morning than the 5 km and 10 km races. Entry fees are 1,000 yen for individuals and 4,000 yen for the relay. The event is limited to a few hundred participants, giving it the feel of a timed practice rather than a large city race.
The course follows the Imperial Palace loop, allowing runners to use laps for pacing and to check against cutoffs. The 20 km race has a 2 hour 40 minute time limit, requiring runners to begin their fourth lap by 10:15 a.m. Similarly, 10 km participants must reach the 5 km mark by that time. The organizer describes it as "Japan’s most relaxed race," accommodating late arrivals, same-day registration, and changes in distance, including improvised ones. Runners can also stop early and still have their distance covered recorded. Timing is done manually, all participants get an award, and prizes may include a sports drink, an izakaya meal voucher, and a magnetic chip.
