Last Man Standing is a backyard ultra held annually on Labor Day weekend in New Gloucester, Maine. The course follows a 4.2-mile loop through the wooded trails of Pineland Farms. All participants begin the loop at noon on Saturday. To advance to the next loop, each runner must complete the current loop in under 60 minutes. The clock restarts hourly, emphasizing consistent pacing, brief rest, and timely restarts over outright speed.
The course features double-track trails with moderate elevation changes, making it suitable for less experienced trail runners while still challenging over extended periods. A large tent, water, and some snacks are supplied by the organizers. Additional food will be available for purchase on Saturday afternoon and evening. Participants are responsible for their own nutrition. The race concludes when only one athlete remains, who must then complete an additional loop beyond the second-to-last finisher to secure victory. Should no runner achieve a one-lap advantage, the race may conclude without a declared winner.
