The Salzburg Trailrunning Festival Nightrun begins and ends at Kapitelplatz. Runners depart at 7:00 PM for a 5.5-kilometer night race through the city. This event opens the festival with a short, mostly flat run that offers a fast urban trail sightseeing experience rather than a mountain race. Headlamps are required, and reflective clothing is advised, indicating the event focuses on running through Salzburg after dark, not just using the evening as a start time.
The course proceeds to the Salzach, follows the Kai to Müllnersteg, then passes through Mirabellgarten and the old Steingasse before crossing the river again. From Nonntal, it ascends Nonnberggasse, providing a view over Salzburg’s rooftops, then returns via Festungsgasse to Kapitelplatz. The finish is back in the square, with the awards ceremony following shortly after, making the entire race compact, central, and easily trackable for spectators.
