The full GGUT begins at 21:30, with the longest race starting in darkness before runners circle Austria's highest mountain. The North Face Grossglockner Ultra-Trail is a July mountain-running series held at Salzburger Platz in Kaprun, within Austria's Hohe Tauern National Park's Zell am See-Kaprun region. The main Grossglockner Ultra-Trail covers 110 km with over 6,500 m of elevation gain. The event family also includes the Osttirol Trail at 84 km and 5,000 m, the Grossglockner Trail at 57 km and 3,500 m, the Weisssee Glacier World Trail at 37 km and 1,500 m, and the KST at 16 km and 1,000 m.
The large loop encircles the Grossglockner, passing 14 glaciers, crossing 3 Austrian federal states, and running near 300 peaks exceeding 3,000 metres. The Grossglockner Trail commences in Kals am Grossglockner, following the mountain through the Dorfertal valley towards the Kaprun glacier area, while the Weisssee race remains within the Weisssee Glacier World. The event targets trail and mountain runners, with the primary distances suitable for older youth and adults. Separate Mini GGUT and Kids Trail Kaprun races are available for younger participants. Start times are staggered throughout the day, beginning with the early Osttirol Trail at 04:30 and concluding with the children's race in the afternoon.
