WACHAUmarathon

The WACHAUmarathon, established in 1998, takes place in Austria’s Wachau region each September. Its full marathon spans 42.195 km, beginning in Emmersdorf and concluding in Krems an der Donau. Half marathon and quarter marathon races are also offered during the same weekend. The day prior features children’s races across various distances, broadening the event's scope beyond just the main marathon. For a period, the event included a 53 km ultramarathon that was part of the Ultramarathon European Cup. The marathon route traces the Danube’s left bank, initially moving upstream for approximately 3 km before heading downstream, largely following the B 3 road towards Krems. The half marathon starts in Spitz, and the quarter marathon in Dürnstein, with both distances converging on the same river-to-Krems path. Austrian national championship races have been held here three times. Course records stand at 2:12:32 for men's marathon, 2:33:33 for women's marathon, 59:53 for men's half, and 1:09:21 for women's half.
