The Eliminator 4/3/2km is a season-ending Geelong Cross Country Club race at John Landy Athletics Field in South Geelong, run on the track in September. Everyone starts with a 4km and 3km sealed-handicap time trial, and the combined results decide which 20 runners make the 2km final. It is a short-format race on paper, but invitational runners are expected to be comfortable racing 4-9km in total, so it suits runners with some racing fitness rather than true beginners.
The format is the main hook: wave starts keep the early time trials moving, then the final turns into a handicap race straight to the line, giving different kinds of runners a real shot if they pace the first two efforts well. The firm track surface rewards steady rhythm and clean form, and spike shoes are suitable. Non-members can enter as invitational runners and pay in person, while members pay a small entry fee. After the racing, the club presents season awards and holds a short AGM, so the morning works as both a competition and the close of the cross country season.
