Sandy Beach serves as the starting point for a straightforward Saturday-morning kayak race, the kind of routine event where the format is secondary to getting on the water and maintaining the practice. The Sat AM Dash is essentially "A group of kayakers" gathering at Bassendean, with a history of results and series behind it but no unnecessary embellishments.
The routine is functional: register, race, then train at Sandy Beach post-effort. The participants are open to all, with "All welcome," and the best part is the post-race activity: "Coffee and slice" after the paddling concludes.
