Triathlon de la Salm starts with a swim in Lac des Doyards in Vielsalm, a town in the Belgian Ardennes. It is a straightforward triathlon with two race options: Sprint, with 750 metres of swimming, 20 kilometres of cycling, and 5 kilometres of running; and Olympic, with 1,500 metres of swimming, 40 kilometres of cycling, and 10 kilometres of running. Athletes can race alone or split the day as a relay team.
The bike course stays inside the Vielsalm municipality, using local roads rather than sending riders far out of town. The run goes through the streets of Vielsalm and includes loops around the lake, keeping Lac des Doyards as the main reference point for both racers and spectators. The race is organized by the non-profit Enjoy Sport and the Triathlon Ardennes club. Its first edition was capped at 200 participants and sold out as soon as registration opened.
