Lime Ridge RUNNING FOR RACHAEL is a 5K walk/run at Lime Ridge Mall on Upper Wentworth Street in Hamilton, Ontario, held on a Sunday morning in September. It raises money for suicide prevention through the Suicide Prevention Community Council of Hamilton. Race-day check-in is at the mall, with opening ceremonies before the start. Runners go first, followed by walkers a few minutes later. The event has been running for 14 years, and its motto is "One Race, One Mission, One Community." Same-day registration is available, and results are posted afterward through SportMadeSimple.
The course is a community 5K at Lime Ridge, not a technical road-racing challenge. Individuals, families, friends, neighbours, co-workers, classmates, donors, sponsors, and volunteers are all part of the day. The event sets a participation goal of 300 people. Money raised supports Hamilton-wide work around hope, help, and healing, including crisis support information, education, bereavement support groups, LivingWorks Start online suicide-prevention training, and the Be Safe for HAMILTON app, which links people to local mental health, addiction, and suicide-prevention resources. A past edition raised more than $44,000, and one participant described the day as emotional, healing, empowering, well organized, and fun.
