Run for Recovery is a Friday evening run and walk at Westwood Lake in Nanaimo, British Columbia, starting at 5:00 PM Pacific. It is built around fundraising for the New Start Foundation for Addiction and Mental Health, with funds directed toward treatment grants at EHN Edgewood Nanaimo. The goal is practical: help people needing addiction or mental health treatment who are blocked by cost or long waits for public services.
The route is based at Westwood Lake, making the event feel more like a community gathering around movement than a formal road-racing production. People in recovery, families, friends, allies, healthcare workers, support professionals, local businesses, and community groups are all invited. Participation can mean running, walking, donating, sponsoring, volunteering, or cheering. The event also collects personal care items like shampoo, deodorant, and toothbrushes for those receiving care at EHN Edgewood Nanaimo. Through New Start’s partnership with EHN Canada, treatment programs contribute 15% back to the foundation, adding another funding stream for future grants.
