About
The Emil Zátopek Golden Marathon is a Czech road race series held in Plzeň, starting and finishing at Štruncovy sady. It is structured around Zátopek’s “golden week”: a 10.5 km race in late July, a 5 km race a few days later, and the marathon at the week's conclusion. The main event features a full 42.195 km marathon and a 21.097 km half marathon for men and women, allowing participants to select a challenging long-distance run or a shorter option within the same Zátopek-themed schedule.
The series honors Emil Zátopek. The Ostrava iteration emphasizes the athletics connection by commencing and concluding at Městský stadion Ostrava-Vítkovice, a venue associated with significant track achievements. This Ostrava race includes marathon, half marathon, 10 km, and mixed team categories on a certified road course with extended straightaways and a more level terrain compared to previous years. Elite athletes, club members, sports enthusiasts, and public figures have participated, with one year's event raising 125,000 Czech crowns for the Nadační fond Nina.
