Horizontale - Rund um Jena

Horizontale - Rund um Jena is a long-distance hiking and running/walking event held in Jena, Thuringia. The primary 100 km route encircles the university city. This 100 km hike commences on a Friday evening, followed by a shorter 35 km sport hike the next morning. Both events use the 3-Field Hall of USV Jena e.V. on Seidelstrasse as their start and finish point. The event is organized by SG Carl Zeiss Jena-Süd e.V. Laufbewerbe, offering both online pre-registration and on-site registration. The 100 km event is limited to 1,000 participants, and the 35 km event to 700, indicating a substantial yet controlled field size. The 100 km course involves an ascent of over 2,300 meters as it circles Jena, classifying it as a demanding hike rather than a simple city walk. It incorporates sections of the middle Horizontale trail within the Kernberge, alternating between ascents and descents, offering expansive vistas of the Saale valley and the city. The route includes notable sites like the Fuchsturm and the Landgrafen. because of the extended distance, many participants navigate through the night. Live tracking and rental tracking devices are provided. Participants who withdraw early must formally deregister, after which they will receive a participation certificate via email.
